In 2026, the Demirli Ore Processing Complex in Aghdara became the first mining industry project launched in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. It includes a copper flotation plant, tailings storage, power infrastructure and mining areas.

A stronger focus on strategic resources

Alongside gold and silver, strategic metals such as copper and iron ore are becoming increasingly important on Azerbaijan's mining agenda. AzerGold's portfolio includes Chovdar, Agyokhush, Marah, Filizchay, Mazimchay and the Dashkasan iron ore site.
Extensive geological research and drilling have been under way at the Soyudlu (Zod) gold deposit in Kalbajar since 2025. In 2026, AzerGold announced a recoverable remaining reserve of 1.03 million ounces under the international JORC standard.

Incentive mechanisms designed to improve Azerbaijan's investment environment are an important support for the mining sector. Projects based on metal ores and other local raw materials are among the areas covered by the country's strategic investment incentives, currently extending to 1 January 2029.
